In light of proposed waste-to-energy incineration plants across Victoria, Rachel has actively campaigned for a thorough, transparent inquiry into the infrastructure. This inquiry was initiated by motion presented to the Legislative Council by Rachel in August 2025.
As a participating member of the Legislative Council Economy and Infrastructure Committee, Rachel raised several questions for the panel of stakeholders and industry experts during the final day of the public hearing. Rachel’s questions to the panel covered topics including waste reduction, licencing compliance, overseas waste management models/regulations and waste-to-energy alternatives.
The panel of experts and stakeholders featured include Dr Jackie Wright and Gayle Sloan of Waste Management and Resource Recovery Association Australia, David Jettner of Opal, Dr Jen Martin of EPA Victoria, Carolyn Jackson of DEECA, Dr Tait of ANU and Janek Vahk of Zero Waste Europe.
