Grants are a sum of money given by an organisation with a specific intention for its use. The following is a list of potential grants. Please note that it is not exhaustive and may not include every type of funding opportunity available to you. 

Government Grants  

The Australian Federal Government has grants available for people to apply through GrantConnect, a centralised grant database that provides potential applicants with free access to Commonwealth funding opportunities.

Similarly, the Victorian Government often has a variety of grants available for individuals and organisations.  You can search their website for more information on funding opportunities.

Local governments are a major provider of community funding. Click on your local council website for current community grants available in your area.    

Non-government Grants  

Community grants between $500 and $10,000 are available to eligible local groups to fund projects that make the South East community a better place to live. Applications open February 2025. 

Community Grants | South East Water 

Community Grants of $2,000 are available to support eligible individuals and organisations who contribute to the Victorian LGBTQIA+ community.  

Small Business Grants of $3,000 are available to support eligible small businesses within the Victorian LGBTQIA+ community. Applications are expected to open in September 2025. 

GLOBE Victoria Grants and Scholarship – GLOBE Victoria 

Community grants of $5,000 are available to eligible registered charities and not-for-profits that use food service or hospitality to support disadvantaged communities. Applications run quarterly, with the first round expected to open in January 2025.  

Community Grants Program | SilverChef 

Grants are available for eligible registered charities in Victoria’s South East that aim to enhance community quality of life, with preference given to projects addressing social or environmental needs, involving volunteers, or supporting disadvantaged or disabled groups. Applications close the first week of March, June, and November each year.    

Apply for a grant – The Andrews Foundation 

Everyday Legal Grants of up to $10,000 are available to eligible organisations engaged in civil legal projects that help community organisations develop legal education and information programs and services. Applications close June 2025 or until funding has been fully allocated.  

Everyday Legal Grant | Victoria Law Foundation 

Healthy Equal Youth (HEY) grants are available to projects and initiatives that are led by LGBTQIA+ young people or foster LGBTQIA+ social connectedness.

How to Make a State Budget Submission 

If you or your organisation intend to apply for state budget funding, please note that while there is no single template to follow, your submission should cover the following: 

  • Be addressed to the relevant minister; 
  • Outline what your project is and how it relates to government policy; 
  • Specify the dollar amount you are seeking and the years in which funding is required; 
  • Detail any other funding sources you may have; 
  • Explain how your project would become financially sustainable after a funding allocation;  
  • Ensure your submission is timely, ideally towards the end of January; and
