Criminal reoffending persists unless root causes addressed

With the government investing $727 million in Victoria’s justice system, Rachel asked the Minister for Corrections about therapeutic services for those in correctional facilities. Since tighter bail restrictions are increasing incarceration rates, Rachel expressed the need for therapeutic supports in prisons to prevent re-offending and promote better outcomes.

Mental health service gaps in Casey and Cardinia

Rachel asked a question to the minister for mental health. With Narre Warren’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Hub closing in 2024, residents have been transitioned to a Dandenong service. Many suburbs in the Casey and Cardinia catchment area continue to lack easily accessible wraparound public mental health services.

LGBTIQA+ legal service launched in the south-east

Rachel Payne MP presented a member’s statement on the launch of Justice Q, a free specialist legal service operated by and for LGBTIQA+ people. Launched in October of this year, Justice Q is an initiative of South-East Monash Legal Service (SMLS), with Rachel having served as a proud member of their steering committee.
