Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) is observed annually on the 20th of November. On this internationally recognised date, we honour the memories of trans and gender-diverse individuals who have lost their lives to gender-based violence. I rise to speak on this motion to require the Mental Health and Wellbeing Commission (MHWC) to inquire into, consider and report on the status and outcomes of the implementation of the Royal Commission into the Victorian Mental Health System recommendations.
LGBTIQA+ legal service launched in the south-east
Rachel Payne MP presented a member’s statement on the launch of Justice Q, a free specialist legal service operated by and for LGBTIQA+ people. Launched in October of this year, Justice Q is an initiative of South-East Monash Legal Service (SMLS), with Rachel having served as a proud member of their steering committee.
Greater accountability for greyhound lives
Rachel Payne MP contributed to a motion moved by Georgie Purcell of the Animal Justice Party Victoria. This motion called for greater reporting transparency and accountability by Victoria’s self-regulated greyhound racing industry, which continues to profit off the lives of its involuntary animal participants.
Little River community campaign a success!
Rachel Payne MP spoke in support of a community petition to quash the proposed development of a freight terminal in Little River’s ‘green wedge’ grasslands.
