Rachel Payne MP spoke in parliament about the approval of a new waste transfer station in Hampton Park.

Victorian Legislative Council
RACHEL PAYNE (South-Eastern Metropolitan): My constituency question is for the Minister for Environment
The City of Casey recently approved a planning permit for a new waste transfer station adjacent to an existing landfill on Hallam Road in Hampton Park.
Approval was given just days before a newly elected council took office, despite over 1000 submissions to the draft development plan, many of which were opposed to this development.
The proposed waste transfer station will be located within 250 metres of homes, putting thousands of my constituents within the 500-metre buffer zone and at risk of exposure to air and noise pollution and dramatically increased traffic.
So I ask: will the minister advocate for my constituents in the surrounding suburbs by opposing the establishment of a new waste transfer station on Hallam Road?
Hampton Park waste transfer station – Response received on the 17th of December:
With the Hallam Road landfill nearing end of life, I am aware of Veolia’s proposal to build a new waste transfer station at their site in Hampton Park.
I understand that the City of Casey has given planning approval for the facility. Questions about its decision and process are a matter for the council.
In December 2023, Veolia applied to Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) for a development licence to construct the waste transfer station. EPA is currently reviewing the application and recently sought comments from anyone who may be affected by the proposal via Engage Vic.
A series of community drop-in sessions have been held by EPA enabling community to seek clarity on the application and to be informed of EPA’s process.
EPA will continue its extensive assessment and will provide a final recommendation in accordance with Environment Protection Act 2017.
